What it is

Catering options, offered up front

Meal Plans are an upselling feature presented early in the booking flow, inside the Configure Room Modal. As guests select their room, they are offered catering options from room only through to bed and breakfast, half board, full board, and all-inclusive, depending on what you want to offer..

Because Meal Plans appear at the rate selection step rather than later, they capture value at one of the earliest and most effective moments of the Customer Journey. Pricing adjusts automatically to the number of guests, the length of stay, and any child-age rules, and you manage everything directly from the Bookassist Extranet.

Key benefits

More value from every booking

Increase Average Booking Value early in the journey

Meal Plans are presented at one of the most impactful moments of the Customer Journey, immediately after a guest selects their room. Offering a breakfast upgrade or half board option at that moment captures revenue that could otherwise be lost, increasing your ABV and making each direct booking more profitable without requiring any additional marketing spend.

Simplify your rate structure significantly

Instead of managing separate room-only and bed-and-breakfast rate plans as distinct packages, Meal Plans allow hotels to offer those options dynamically from a single room entry. A hotel can attach a Meal Plan to one room type and offer room-only and breakfast from the same listing, reducing the total number of packages needed by half and making the booking experience cleaner for guests.

Break OTA parity and win on your direct channel

Meal Plans are one of the most effective tools for differentiating your direct channel from OTA listings. By offering a better-value meal plan exclusively on your direct website, or pricing OTA rates higher, you give guests a concrete financial reason to book direct. Combined with transparent, per-stay pricing in the booking flow, this builds trust and makes your bookings more profitable.

MEAL PLAN OPTIONS LIST

Guests see all available Meal Plan options for their selected room as a clear, scannable list. Each option has a name and a radio button selector. The first option is always a room-only choice, giving guests full control and no pressure. The list is concise and presented in order of value, from room only through to the most inclusive option.

How it works

Chosen as guests pick their room

The guest is offered an upgrade as they choose their room

As soon as a guest selects a room, the Configure Room Modal presents the available Meal Plans. The upgrade is offered naturally at the point of decision, one of the earliest and most effective upselling moments in the Customer Journey.

Options are super clear and adjust automatically

Meal Plans appear as a clean, scannable list with expandable details. Pricing adjusts automatically to the number of guests, the length of stay, and any child-age rules, so the total is always accurate. Controls are touch-friendly on mobile, and the room-only option is always available with no pressure.

Every upgrade lowers your effective Cost Per Acquisition

Each Meal Plan increases the value of a booking you have already secured. Because you acquire that guest only once, every euro of meal plan revenue spreads your acquisition cost across a larger booking and drives your effective Cost Per Acquisition down. Offer better value than the OTAs, and guests get a clear reason to book direct. That is how we make your bookings more profitable.

FAQ

Can a hotel make a Meal Plan mandatory?

Yes. Meal Plans can be set as mandatory, requiring the guest to select an option before checkout. This is useful when you want every booking to include a catering component, for specific room types or high-demand periods.

How are Meal Plans different from Add-ons?

Meal Plans are catering options shown in the Configure Room Modal as the guest selects their room, covering breakfast, half board, and full board. Add-ons are separate experiences shown later in the Enhance your Stay Modal, such as spa treatments and dining credits. Both increase Average Booking Value.

Can the same Meal Plan be offered across different room types?

Yes. A single Meal Plan can be assigned to every room type or restricted to specific rooms. This also simplifies your rate structure: instead of separate room-only and breakfast packages, you offer the meal as an upgrade, halving the number of packages and making the booking engine easier to navigate.
